Arizonans encouraged to apply by August 1, 2026 to access current rebate guidelines
The Efficiency Arizona program’s guidelines are changing to comply with a recent U.S Department of Energy (DOE) Home Energy Rebates Program Notice for all federally funded electrification appliance rebate grant programs, including Efficiency Arizona. Arizonans who intend to apply for rebates supporting an upgrade from existing gas to efficient electric appliances are encouraged to submit an application by August 1, 2026.
What’s Changing
Following the DOE’s program notice, Efficiency Arizona is required to implement the following updates:
- Insulation & Air Sealing Standards: Insulation and air sealing standards may be required alongside a heat pump-rebated project.
- No More Fuel Switching: Rebates will no longer be allowed for replacement of gas appliances with electric appliances.
- Electric-to-Electric Upgrades: Rebates will now only be permitted to replace existing electric appliances and heat pumps.
- Expanded Heat Pump Flexibility: Heat pumps will no longer be required to serve as a home’s primary heating and cooling source.
What’s Not Changing
The following elements of the Efficiency Arizona program are not changing:
- Qualified product list and maximum rebate limits.
- Rebates for replacing standard electric HVAC units, electric water heaters, or electric dryers with efficient heat pump alternatives.
- Electrical wiring and panel upgrade rebates (which must still be paired with an eligible appliance rebate).
- Retail appliance purchase options.
Important Dates
The Efficiency Arizona team has identified key deadlines to help Arizonans plan accordingly.
- August 1, 2026 – Current Guidelines Application Deadline: Arizonans who intend to apply for rebates supporting an upgrade from existing gas to electric appliances are encouraged to submit an application by this date. Applying by this date allows sufficient time for processing, eligibility determination, and securing a reservation for approved applicants.
- August 28, 2026 – Rebate Reservation Deadline: The final day for the Efficiency Arizona team to secure a rebate reservation under the current guidelines. To secure a reservation, projects must have an approved application, a completed home assessment (if required), and an approved contractor scope of work. Actual project installation, rebate redemption, and payment can securely occur after August.
- September 1, 2026 – New Guidelines Take Effect: All rebate reservations made on or after this date will be subject to the new program guidelines.
