Products

Efficiency Arizona products are highly efficient appliances, HVAC equipment, and measures to improve energy efficiency, home comfort, and help Arizonans save on their energy bills. Rebates cover a percentage of the total project costs, up to $14,000 per household, depending on income level.

Heat Pump

A heat pump uses electricity to move heat between the inside and the outside of a building, providing heating and cooling. Heat pumps are more efficient than traditional heating and cooling systems and can cost less to operate.

How a Heat Pump Works:

How a Heat Pump Works

Eligibility: To be eligible for a heat pump rebate, the household must meet program income eligibility requirements, property ownership requirements, and the new heat pump must replace a non-electric heat source (gas, propane, oil, etc.) or an electric furnace, boiler, or electric baseboard heating.

The new heat pump water heater must be a qualifying Energy Star-rated heat pump water heater.

Note: Properties with an existing heat pump water heater are not eligible for the heat pump water heater rebate.

Price Range/Rebate:

The actual cost of a heat pump will vary based on many factors, including home size, insulation in the home, type of heat pump, efficiency of the heat pump, and installation factors. The information below is provided to illustrate a general average cost and rebate amount.

Tier 1 – <80% AMI

$6,631.50

Maintenance

  • Heat pump air filters need to be changed on a regular basis, typically once a month. If the household has pets with long hair, the air filter may need to be monitored and may need to be changed more frequently.
  • Heat pump coils should be inspected at least once a year by a professional HVAC contractor, recommended to be done in spring or fall.
  • A heat pump over 8-10 years of age is recommended to be serviced annually by a professional HVAC contractor.
  • The outdoor unit on a heat pump needs proper air flow to work efficiently. Inspect the outdoor unit to ensure vegetation is not overgrown. Trim any bushes or vegetation away from the outdoor unit, as needed.

Installation Standards

Heat pump installations must comply with the following standards:

Heat Pump Water Heater

Heat Pump Water Heater

Heat pump water heaters use electricity to move heat from one place to another instead of generating heat directly – taking the heat from surrounding air and transferring it to water in an enclosed tank. During periods of high hot water demand, some “hybrid” models can switch to standard electric resistance heat automatically.

Eligibility: To be eligible for a heat pump water heater rebate, the household must meet program income requirements, property ownership requirements, and must replace a non-electric or traditional electric water heater.

The new heat pump water heater must be a qualifying Energy Star-rated heat pump water heater.

Note: Properties with an existing heat pump water heater are not eligible for the heat pump water heater rebate.

Maintenance:

  • Heat pump water heaters have an air filter that needs to be checked and cleaned on a  quarterly basis.
  • Heat pump water heaters have a condensate line that needs to be checked to ensure it is clean and free of clogs. This is typically recommended to be done annually.

Heat Pump Clothes Dryer

A heat pump clothes dryer is more energy-efficient than a traditional clothes dryer. It uses less electricity to dry clothes because it removes moisture by sending air through an evaporator without losing too much heat. Heat pump dryers come in many options: traditional, stackable, and all-in-one (washer plus dryer) units to choose from, and a few only require a standard 120-volt electric outlet, rather than a (three- or four-prong) 240-volt outlet.

Eligibility: To be eligible for a heat pump dryer, the household must meet program income requirements, property ownership requirements, and must replace a non-electric or traditional electric dryer.

The new heat pump dryer must be a qualifying Energy Star-rated heat pump dryer.

Note: Properties with an existing heat pump dryer are not eligible for the heat pump dryer rebate.

Cooking Appliances

Electric Cooking Appliance (stove, cooktop, range, oven)

ENERGY STAR-certified electric cooking products are 18% more efficient, on average, compared to standard models. They are better for your home’s indoor air quality than burning natural gas or propane, which can produce air pollutants. These appliances can be either radiant or induction cooktops, and electric cooking appliances must be installed.

Note: Portable cooktops do not qualify for a rebate.

Eligibility: To be eligible for an electric cooking appliance, the household must meet program income requirements, property ownership requirements, and the cooktop must replace a non-electric or dual-fuel cooking appliance.

The new electric cooking appliance must be a qualifying Energy Star-rated electric cooking appliance.

Note: Properties with an existing electric cooking appliance are not eligible for the electric cooking appliance rebate.

Insulation, Air Sealing, or Ventilation

Insulation is the use of materials or methods to resist the transfer of energy, such as heat, electricity, or sound, between different areas or objects. Proper insulation in a home reduces energy costs and leads to improved home comfort.

Air sealing is the process of finding and sealing cracks and gaps in a home to prevent unwanted air leaks in or out of the conditioned space. This may include air sealing, duct sealing, and duct insulation.

Ventilation of a home refers to the intentional and controlled process of exchanging stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air. This includes kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room exhaust fans.

Eligibility: To be eligible for an insulation, air sealing, or ventilation rebate, the household must meet program income requirements and property ownership requirements.

Insulation, Air Sealing, or Ventilation

Price Range/Rebate:

The total combined rebate for Insulation, Air Sealing, and/or Ventilation is $1,600. The costs for insulation, air sealing, or ventilation projects vary significantly. This variation is based on several factors including the size of the home, the current amount and type of existing insulation, the extent of air sealing required, and whether any existing exhaust fans need replacement.

Maintenance:

  • Insulation:
    • Prevent water intrusion into the insulated area. Preventing water intrusion is crucial because once insulation gets wet, its efficiency potential and integrity are compromised. Depending on the material and how much water it absorbs, wet insulation can lose 20% to 70% of its efficiency. If water intrusion is discovered, it should be addressed and repaired as soon as possible.
  • Ventilation:
    • Check the grill, fan blades, and sensor (if applicable) on a regular basis and clean when needed.
